This has come up in discussion before, so I decided to work it out.  Here are the Sentai colors I perceive for the players in the Star Wars games I'm in, based on basic associations with character archetypes.
Gogal's Game

  • Prager-Red
  • Phil-Blue
  • Trin-Yellow
  • Eric-Pink
  • Jonneh-Black
  • Me-Green
  • Aki-White(?)
Phil's Game
  • Alex-Red
  • DS-Blue
  • Tom-Yellow
  • Me-Black
  • Dan-Green
  • Rosa-Pink
  • Iggy-White
  • Cid & Clanger-GoOn Wings

Random Question (2P)
Six subjects are presented.  Player in control picks one and a tossup is asked based on the subject.  Whoever gets it right is awarded a random amount of points that increases as the game continues.  One of the subjects is the "Double Draw" which offers a random amount of bonus points.  High score after all six Q's wins.

AMV Collage Bowl (4P or 2 teams of 4)
A short AMV is shown and one tossup based on it worth 10 pts is asked.  Whoever gets it gets bonus questions either 1 for 10 or 3 for 5 each.  General Knowledge (but related) Q's are possible, if not probable.   Game is played in 3 12-minute periods and R3 is for double stakes.  In the 4P game, low scorer is eliminated after each period.

What do you get when you combine Cash Cab, Formula D, and Trivial Pursuit, and put it on a convention stage?  Well, a hot mess, most likely, but it's also an idea for a con game show.

Three teams of three participate.  One player on each is the "driver" and will have a predetermined route to drive in order to pick their other two teammates, each placed at one location.  Each route starts from a central hub and will be the same length.  The driver who answers an opening toss-up question would take the driver's seat and advance along the board by answering questions of varying difficulty.  Like in Formula D, each "gear" would have it's own movement range and question difficulty.  1st gear questions (which include toss-ups) are 1-2, 2nd gear is 2-4, and top gear are 3-6.  The team in control can accelerate or decelerate one gear at a time if they want.  If they get a question wrong, they stop and the other two teams have a chance to steal and move in 1st gear.

If the team in control reaches a destination, the player at said destination joins the team in the "car" (and only players in the car can help to answer questions) but they forfeit their turn.  Stopping requires an exact roll, but if you overshoot, you can downshift one space per gear.  If you still overshoot, well that sucks, but you're still in control.  Also along the way, there'll be red lights which forfeits the turn, and green lights than allow for a free roll.  Whoever picks up all their players and makes it back to the hub first (on exact roll) wins.

The key aesthetic would be that the course would be the convention's city, with the hub being the actual location of the con.  I always like making things local, because that's sorta cool, and with most of your attendees being local, you might as well. :3

I'm very pleased what I was able to put together so far for April's NTT (and for the future).  Granted, there's been the frankensteining of code, but that was probably going to happen regardless.  Here's a rundown.

  • Each game is going to be its own self-contained .swf file.  The songs are going to be loaded and played through the .swf via XML.  Buzzing in pauses the track and locks out the other player.  Incrementing (or decrementing) the score resets the buzzers.  Additional play and reset controls are controlled via the keyboard.  There are going to be various other bells and whistles going on with each game, but the core of each game will be this.
  • Melody Roulette now has a semi-authentic wheel.  Both have been programmed to spin for a certain period of time (in opposite directions, too!) and then randomly land on a predetermined space.  My question for different speeds resulted in a very fast inner wheel, but it should not be that big of a problem.  The double wheel covers one-eighth of the outer wheel and will "light up" when hit.  The only downside is that the wheel is an independent .swf due to size concerns, but the above makes sure it's not an issue.
  • Golden Medley is dependent on whether K-Fest's champ will be present.  If she is, it'll be her vs. the Tekko champ in a 60-second race to 7.  If no one hits 7, the highest score wins their prizes.  If she's not there, it'll be same as in October, but 45 seconds, and likely Vegas Solitaire rules.
If there's time after I set up all the games (and work on AFC), I want to try and create a "home base."  This will show which game will be played and call the .swf.  I figure this is easier than I make it out to be, but I want it to be dynamic and showy.  If I don't have it, oh well.  But man, I feel like I did something awesome.

I'm revisiting the BCS Fix I posted this time last year.  Most of it is staying the same.  In fact, all but the scheduling is staying the same.  Here's the meaty bits.

  • +1 system, with only Conference champions allowed in the Natl Champ picture
  • Mountain West is a BCS Conference
  • 12 teams make BCS games
I'm also using the BCS pick schedule, which is...interesting.  So, here's what happens.
  • Nat'l Semifinalists are #1 Auburn, #2 Oregon, #3 TCU, and #5 Wisconsin; #4 Stanford is not a conference champ, so no soup for them
  • #11 Boise State is the NAQ winner, and under the current rules, the Rose Bowl has to take them because Oregon and Wisconsin are in an NCS
  • #14 Virginia Tech goes to the Orange Bowl and #7 Oklahoma goes to Fiesta, as prescribed
  • Since the SEC champ is the top ranked team, the Sugar Bowl gets first priority pick to replace them.  They choose Stanford.
  • The Pac 10 Champ is #2, so the Rose Bowl gets to pick 2nd.  They choose #6 Ohio State.
  • There are no other replacement picks, so the remaining picks go in reverse chronological order in relation to the NCS.  Sugar goes first and picks #8 Arkansas
  • Orange Bowl is 2nd.  They pick the 3rd Big 10 Team #9 Michigan State.
  • Fiesta Bowl is stuck holding the bag of Husky poop
So, here are the match-ups

Rose Bowl Game (Pasadena 1/1)
#11 Boise State vs. #6 Ohio State

National Championship Semifinal #1 (New Orleans, 1/1)
#5 Wisconsin vs. #1 Auburn

National Championship Semifinal #2 (Miami, 1/1)
#2 Oregon vs. #3 TCU

Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, 1/3)
Connecticut vs. #7 Oklahoma

Orange Bowl (Miami, 1/4)
#9 Michigan St. vs. #14 Virginia Tech

Sugar Bowl (New Orleans, 1/7)
#8 Arkansas vs. #4 Stanford

National Championship (Glendale, 1/10)
National Semifinal Winners

It was PA, after all, but from the looks of the house and the roads to get there, you could've sworn it was.

Anyway, my family and I went to visit some friends who I guess technically had a ranch.  There were horses and goats and cats and a small shooting range.  I had a pleasurable experience with the goats, all 15-20 of them, and had some quality cat time.  The three indoor cats were all Napoleon cats, that is, cats with stubby legs.  It looks like they're constantly crouching, but that's how they are.  They also have grumpy faces, but one purred when I pet her x3  We were also visited by vultures and deer, but they paid us no nevermind.  Dinner was grilled chicken with carrot salad (w/ oranges and mint), couscous, and organic chocolate torte.  There was also cider in the fridge, which I happened to partake in :3

Overall, a fun time.   Wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis (nor live out in the middle of nowhere), but a fun change of pace from da Burgh.

Provided I pass the test on Friday, I will be a full-on trainee of Parkvale Bank.  I'm currently stationed in Squirrel Hill during the day, which allows for social flexibility.  Plus, I only have to wake up at 7:30, so it's all good.  It's salaried, and there's immediate room for growth.

I am now living in Edgewood, above the Parkway, behind Edgewood Towne Centre and across from the busway.  It's a fairly straightforward shot by 61A, and only a little convoluted by car.  It's a rather roomy 1 bedroom with central air, storage space galore, and a kitchen with dishwasher and garbage disposal.  Not bad for 610+electric.  Even better: Verizon gets installed on Tuesday.  You're all invited to come and hang out--there's room for everyone and I can comfortably sleep 5 (myself included) before I'd need to get creative.  Just give me some notice, so I can tell the landlord which cars not to tow n.n

All in all, I think I'm set up quite well.  The only thing I thing I wish I had was someone to enjoy this with.  I understand why I don't, but that doesn't mean I have to like it, and the nights can get pretty long.  Hopefully, I'll have so much fun at work and clubs that I'll want to get away from people if only for variety.

But I guess it can't be all perfect, can it?
